This is a wonderful site. Unfortunately, I left Lydiate when I was nine so I don't remember too much, but I passed it along to both my sisters (one in England and one in North Carolina) and they loved it. I live in New York State, USA but have grown up hearing stories about Lydiate from my family. I did actually drive by our old house on one of my trips back (Sandy Lane) and it didn't look too much different! I just sent a photo my sister gave me of a trip on the Bootle Belle in 1952 to celebrate the Queen's coronation, so hopefully it will get posted soon.
So lovely to see this site about my childhood home. I lived on Park Avenue from 1966 to 1975 when we moved to Canada. Went to Lambshear Lane school and then to Deyes High briefly. I remember Kidgers and Scotts and all those shops on Liverpool Road at the bottom of Virginia Avenue. Does anyone remember the park (between Coronation Road and Park Avenue) when there was an old farmhouse still there - and when the "hollow" was there? Great fun to play in. Last time I was back in 1991, everything was different.
Lovely site! I lived in Lydiate from when I was born in 1970 until 1985 when we moved to Maghull (it felt like a massive move for me and my sisters and we didn't want to move and leave all of our friends in Mayfayre Avenue and the surrounding roads!) I've recently moved back to live in Lydiate with my husband and 3 sons and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else xx
I love the photos on the site and would love to see more of the canal as I think that's a real feature of Lydiate and also the parks - I spent a lot of my youth in Sandy Lane park and used to play tennis for the Ladies team there - unfortunately the club house was burnt down which meant the club wasn't really sustained. .
Happy New Year to you all and that includes you...Charles Wesley Southern a true Lydiatonian.

Which bridge do you class as Rimmers Bridge. I have asked my Aunty and the one they called Rimmers bridge is the one at the Red Lion because a family by the name of Rimmer lived at the house on the bridge. Also my cousin Jean has been told Rimmers bridge is the bridge after Jacksons on the Downholland side. Think an old history book or map is required.
