Lydiate Marina

Does anyone have any information on this. It was mentioned in the local paper recently by the man who walks his dog!

The empty shop on Coronation Road shops is an eye-sore. Can't someone buy it and turn it into a bistro/wine bar, or a craft -wool shop?

What is happening with the old Lydiate Youth Club site on Lambshear lane? There was talk of a medical centre.

Our local library is to move to the Maghull Town Hall site. What do the people of Lydiate think about it?

The Running Horses pub was closed and boarded up after a recent fire .

MAGHULL AND LYDIATE BID FOR BLOOMING GLORY

Residents and businesses in Maghull and Lydiate are being encouraged to support the areas bid in  the North West in Bloom Awards which recognises efforts by communities to make neighbourhoods brighter places.

A “Maghull and Lydiate in Bloom” group has already been established which meets monthly at Maghull Chapel in Foxhouse Lane, Maghull and comprises local residents, business owners and other local organisations.

Chairman of the group, George Baker said, “ Although the group has only been in existence for a few weeks we have started planning what needs to be done to win this award and have already identified four key areas to improve. As the award is run by the Royal Horticultural Society as part of their Britain in Bloom Awards, the emphasis will be on creating floral displays, tidying up grot spots and generally making those areas look more appealing to those who live, visit and work here“.

“We are currently speaking to local schools, Maghull Town Council, Lydiate Parish Council and Sefton Council who have all said they support our efforts but we need plenty of volunteers who would be willing to help out at organised events and help spread the word about what we are trying to achieve“

Local shop owners and other businesses can also help by keeping their premises clean and tidy and improving their appearance by putting out hanging baskets or creating floral displays.

This is the first time Lydiate and Maghull has entered North West in Bloom and the group is already thinking ahead to 2009 when they will be eligible to enter the even more prestigious Britain in Bloom Awards.

“Making areas look more attractive can have other benefits such as less anti-social behaviour occurring and reducing the fear of crime so ultimately everyone can benefit from this“, said George.

Anyone interested in joining the group or helping out in any way please call George Baker on  526 0788.
